Our Story

After selling used vehicles for several years, Herman James decided to start his own business and founded Charlottetown Truck & Recreation Ltd in March of 1998. The dealership was originally located on the corner of Mount Edward Road and the Charlottetown Bypass. Charlottetown Truck sold used vehicles of all makes and models, but Herman loved a good "search". If a customer inquired about a certain vehicle and it wasn't on the lot, Herman would find it! In December of 2006, Herman relocated his shop to his hometown of Morell. Shortly after, his partner Lisa joined the team full-time as Office Manager and “Jill of All Trades”.

After relocating to Morell, we began offering complete automotive repair services. We continued to operate as Charlottetown Truck as we didn’t want to lose brand recognition with our client base throughout the Maritimes. We proudly offered the largest selection of used trucks in PEI including ¼ tons, ½ tons, ¾ tons, 1 tons, Duallys, dump trucks, gas, diesel and more! We also sold all makes and models of cars, SUVs, vans, boats, campers, motor homes, four wheelers, snowmobiles, motorcycles – anything with a motor (and sometimes without!)

In 2016, we became a U-Haul distribution centre and authorized U-Haul repair dealer enabling us to book rentals for moving vehicles and accessories. We love welcoming new residents to our community, or being part of a move to a next chapter in life.

Unexpectedly in June of 2017, Herman passed away. With heavy hearts, but overwhelming support from the community, his partner Lisa and Red Seal mechanics, Randall Parkman and Dylan Compton continued to operate Charlottetown Truck. In 2018, Lisa decided to move ahead focusing on the service side of the business, re-branding the shop as "Her Man's Shop" in his honour. Today, Her Man’s Shop is a full-service automotive repair shop, reconditioning all makes and models of vehicles. We are still an authorized U-Haul dealer, however, we are no longer selling used vehicles.
